Final Poster idea, development and evaluation.

This is the photo I am using on it:

Here is my development to get it ready to add to my poster idea:

1. I opened this photo and a blank page up in photoshop.

2. Then I cut a part out of the photo that I didn't need with the 'Quick Selection Tool'.

3.Then I cut around the guy the best I could, again with the 'Quick Selection Tool', and added it to the blank page.

4. Then I placed him where I wanted him on my poster.

5. Then using the 'Brush Tool' I painted over the black bit of wall, that had transferred with the guy, with white paint.

6. Then I used the 'Brush Tool', 'Soft Round Brush' and 'White Paint' to fade out around the hard lines around the guy where I had cut him out.

6a. Including 'Zooming in' to the guitar and fading around the bits that were hard to reach with zooming in.

Then I ended up with this.

7. More fading around the edges.

Now for the boxes of text and the main V Festival icon.

I am going to add this into my Poster next.

I added the Logo to Photoshop then dragged it over to my Poster development.

8. It was a little bigger then I wanted when I first dragged it over, so I went to 'Edit', 'Transform' and then 'Scale' so that I could resize it.

9. I then 'Merged' all the layers together.
I decided to have it here so that the list of bands and festival info was up the top.

10. I then used the 'Soft Round Brush' to add colour to the poster around the pictures.
And then I added a spiderweb to exaggerate the 'Halloween' theme.

11. Then I used the brush to kind of fade out the spiderweb in places so that it looked like part of the background.

12. Next I used a 'Scattered Maple Leaves Brush' and the colour orange and just dragged it along the bottom to add the effect that they were being whipped up by the bass players playing. I added them because Halloween in in the Autumn.

13. Then I just added a few more around.

14. Then I draw a little bit of web that jointed up the picture other web. I was thinking about joining the text to the web and choosing a font so that it looks like web writing. I faded the rest of the web.

15. This is me playing around with placement of the text.

16. Added more text.

16. I like this text placement and how the text gets smaller.

17. Then I added a website and the day the tickets go on sale.

18. I added a 'Halloween Special' title, then I added some different textures to see what the outcomes would be.

19. This is my final image. I decided to use a pumpkin texture for the background because it is a halloween special.

This is the final image:

I painted over the band member, leaves and text so that you could see it through the texture, because when I layered it it was over everything. I chose the colour orange because it is the colour that you see when you think of halloween and it is brightly coloured so it catches your attention.

Evaluation of my own work

What people look for in music festival posters:
-The Band list
-The Colours
-Unique Ideas
-Eye Catching

This is what I have tried to incorporate into my poster. I have included some big names of bands in my poster and a bright colour and images to catch your attention, and a website to find more out from because I didn't want to clutter up the whole poster with writing.

What I could improve:

-I could improve on my Photoshopping skills for next time and I could edit it in ways I didn't this time

-I could make a more diverse range of images if I had a few extra hours next time

-I might have planned it differently and used my time differently like, I would know what I was doing next time so I could get straight into it and do more with the time I had

V festival history

'V Festival is an annual music festival held in England during the penultimate weekend in August.
The event is held at two parks simultaneously which share the same bill; artists perform at one location on Saturday and then swap on Sunday. The sites are located at Hylands Park in Chelmsford, Essex and Weston Park in South Staffordshire.

The idea for V Festival came in 1996 when Pulp's front man Jarvis Cocker announced he would love to play two outdoor venues in two days. Pulp's promoters got together and came up with the idea of putting the gig into Victoria Park Warrington and Hylands Park Chelmsford giving fans in both the North and South a chance to see the band. Then came the idea of adding more bands to the bill, putting on a second stage and letting people camp for the weekend. In the end Victoria Park was just too small for two stages and camping. So in August 1996 there was one day of artists in Victoria Park and two days at Hylands Park with camping. The northern leg of V97 was switched to Temple Newsam, Leeds to provide room for camping and three stages. In 1999 the Northern leg of the festival was moved to Weston Park in Staffordshire and has remained there since.' - Taken from http://www.vfestival.com/v-info/v-history

I have taken these dates and times into consideration and I am still having my V Festival on Halloween because it can be a once in a life time chance and a limited edition Festival.

Band research, college bands.

For a part of my research for Festival posters, I photographed a band at college while they were playing in a studio.

I am going to use this picture because I like the focus on it and I think it looks quite professional.

Drums.

Base.

Guitar.

Singer.

I was thinking about maybe using one of these pictures for one of my own design ideas for a Festival Poster. I think I might use one of the guitar pictures. I will have it at the side accompanied with the text and information that is needed.
